He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Lyon Tucker and Mary Lea Tucker, sister Barbara Janes, and Brother Robert L. Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy, daughters Renee Saul (Robin) and Christina Thompson (Keith), grandson Josh Welch (Annie), granddaughters Courtney Pierce and Julia Pierce, and three great- grandchildren, Brantley Pierce, and Myers and Finley Welch.
Richard graduated from NC State University with a degree in engineering. He spent his career working in the steel industry and received the William Davis Award for lifetime achievement from the Steel Erectors Association of America in 2010. He retired at age 75.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. In his spare time he liked playing golf and working crossword puzzles.
A memorial service will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at 311 Century Drive in Greenville on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1:30 pm with visitation preceding at 12:30 pm. Burial will take place at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Because of Richard's love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA of Greenville - Humane Society of Greenville.
