She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 18, 1946, and graduated from Chesaning High School.
In 1972, Mary and her late husband Robert “Bobbie” Langdon moved near Muncie, Indiana and opened Eastern Engineering Supply. They were the only two employees at that time. Under their leadership, the business thrived into now what is nine stores in five states. Eastern Engineering Supply was awarded the Half Century Award by the state of Indiana and remains run by Mary’s entire family.
Mary had two distinct lives. The first was being “Up North.” She loved to spend time at her home in Northern Michigan where fishing, boating, birds, and anything water was on her agenda. When she was near the water, life was good.
Mary always enjoyed the lake life with many trips to Canada and hours on her boats trying to catch the next big one. She took each of her grandchildren to the “secret” spots. She was especially proud of the “five-pound” smallmouth bass caught off the dock last summer. In true fisherman fashion, Mary might have cushioned that weight just a little.
Mary’s second life was spent in any barn. She loved big, fancy horses. She was involved with the American Saddlebred breed for over six decades. She earnestly traveled around the country to attend competitions. She was very proud to have created three generations of riders with her daughter and granddaughter. Mary certainly loved everything equine and considered each of her horse friends to be family.
A lesser-known hobby of Mary’s was that she enjoyed going to the casinos. If she did not answer your phone or text, it was likely because she was pulling a penny slot handle somewhere.
Mary was the matriarch of the Langdon family and will be most missed around the lakes of Northern Michigan and in the barns of the bluegrass state.
Her husband, Robert “Bob” Langdon; and her mother, Catherine Murray, preceded Mary in death.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark (wife, Dawn) Langdon; daughter, Kim Langdon; grandchildren, Tyler (wife, Kylie) Langdon, Emma (husband, Kevin) Langdon, and Olivia Langdon; siblings, Harlow Murray, Bill Murray, Jean Hiser, and Fred Murray.
