Marion Elaine (Ditman) Scott, 83, formerly from Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home in New Bern, North Carolina surrounded by her beloved family on Friday, February 16, 2024. Marion was born on March 1, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland to William Franklin Ditman, Sr. (Winnie) and Emily Crowly Ditman.
Marion’s life exemplified extraordinary love for the Lord, her husband, whom she adored for 65 years, her two daughters, her grandchildren, her siblings, nieces and nephews, and her church family. Marion touched the lives, in innumerable ways, of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. She was a genuine, selfless, loving, and virtuous woman. Marion’s greatest joy came from taking care of her family and others in need. Marion worked with her beloved husband over many years and several churches ministering and teaching young married couples’ groups, Sunday School groups, financial counseling, and benevolent work with those in financial crisis. She loved participating with her husband in the Precept Bible Study Group for many years, gaining a more intimate knowledge of God’s Word.
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 65 years, Donald Scott (Scotty); her eldest daughter Donna Scott Gates, husband Ben, and children Christopher Lewis and Kelli Lewis Sutherland; her youngest daughter Brenda Scott Hall, husband Jon Hall, and son Benjamin Cochran; her eldest brother William Franklin Ditman, Jr.; her sister Eileen Ditman Hastings and husband, Dick Hastings.
Marion is predeceased by her younger brother, Paul Stanley Ditman, and her parents, William and Emily Ditman.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice of New Bern, North Carolina for their outstanding and compassionate care provided to Marion and family during her illness.
