Don served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1958. His dedication to his military associations exemplified his commitment to serving his country.
Don found joy in his work with the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission. He ran creel, fish population studies, data entry and analysis, maintenance, and assisted biologists with habitat enhancement projects and other monitoring programs. He was a vital part of the team managing the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. He cherished early morning moments on the lake, especially watching the sunrise over Lake Tohopekaliga and Lake Cypress. He retired after 45 years. He also had a passion for flying, obtaining his private pilot's license in 1980.
In his retirement, Don loved to travel; exploring the United States in his motorhome with his beloved wife, Darlyne. Whenever they would leave, his grandchildren would race them as they played “On the Road Again” over their musical horns. He also enjoyed family get-togethers for BBQ’s and Fish Frys. His Saturday morning ritual of eating at Cracker Barrel with his wife was a tradition close to his heart.
Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Darlyne Arwood, of Kissimmee, FL; his daughter, Dee Dee Warner (Carl) of Kent, WA; his sons, Darrold Arwood (Marilyn) of Holopaw, FL, and Daniel Arwood (Florence) of Apopka, FL; his daughter-in-law Vickie Sullivan of Davenport, FL; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah and Clifford Arwood, of Greeneville, TN; his sister, Sylvia Wilber of Greeneville, TN; his brothers, James Arwood and Lynn Arwood, both of Greeneville, TN; and his adoptive son, Kris Weimer of Davenport, FL.
Donald Clifford Arwood will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grampa (Grampa Don to his great-grandchildren). He was dedicated to his country, had a passion for nature, and love for adventure. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
