Bonnie Gaye Thomas passed away peacefully at Island Lake Center in Longwood, FL on February 27th, 2024 after a long battle with a brain tumor. Bonnie had a very rare genetic disorder that affected her since she was a toddler. As she got into her later adult years, she was challenged with many health issues. She always had a smile and never let anyone know internally how much she was facing. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer, her granddaughter Faith, her sister Rita and her brother Ken. Bonnie was born in Brooklyn, NY and then later on moved to Jackson Heights, NY. She graduated from Newtown High School and then went on to secretarial school. After her divorce, she moved to Forest Hills with her daughter and lived with her mom. She worked for the Women’s League of Conservative Judaism for many years before becoming a payroll secretary for the NYC Department of Education. When Bonnie retired, it was her dream to move to Florida to be with her daughter and eventually become a grandmother. Bonnie got her wish before she passed away and got to meet her granddaughter. Bonnie will always be remembered for her kindness, her generosity and being a “mom” to so many of her daughters friends. Bonnie was an amazing mom, grandmother, friend, sister, daughter, and cousin. She had the fondest memories of her life in NYC and shared them regularly before passing away. She will always live in so many of our hearts. She will be missed dearly. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 6th at 12:00 p.m. at 830 Haulover Dr. Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. The family will also plan a celebration of life for Bonnie's family and friends in NY/NJ in the summer. More information will go out at a later date.
